Schindler Factory

Our visit to Poland allowed us to gain a greater understanding of the events of World War II. The realizations are not all appropriate here but a visit to the country necessarily results in an education on that formative era of America. Krakow was the location of the Schindler Factory made famous by Spielberg’s Academy Award winning movie Schindler’s List (a movie neither Samir or I have seen!). A museum now sits on the site. The exhibition highlights the occupation of Krakow by the Nazi and Communist regimes. The people of Krakow and Poland fought against the Nazi invasion and it continues to provide a source of inspiration and pride. The exhibition is complete with sound (commands in German), video (People of Krakow assembling in the town square), and powerful photographs (overt harassment of Polish and Jewish citizens) that combine to create a poignant presentation. Imagine turning a dark corner of an already morbid setting and coming face to face with two bright red flags adorned with swastikas. The message was effectively conveyed.
